importance of Malayalam

While I don’t disagree to the promotion of Malayalam to be the medium of instruction in higher secondary schools, it should never be done at the cost of English. Being international language it is widely recognized the world over. English gives you an opportunity to socialize with other nations by means of easy communication. The British rule and their influence have put English on a firm footing that few countries enjoy today. We have been able achieve great success in the IT sector, science and technology by the solid foundation we laid on English language. If English is not given its due recognition, it will aversely affect the development and progress of these sectors . Believe it or not the Chinese who are chauvinistic by nature have now started learning English realizing the folly they have made in the past.
The standard of English has been declining over the years the effect of which would surely be detrimental to science and technology particularly to a developing nation. We can’t under any reason belittle the importance of Malayalam anyway but it shouldn’t be at the cost of English.

Hi Murivukal,

A good thought. I fully agree there is no reason to believe one language is superior to another or that communication is possible only in a global language. For that matter, more people speak Mandarin than any other language, but does that mean it becomes the global language? I hope it does not!

But my feeling on reading this post and the next post (almost verbatim copy) was that the arguments are not very emphatic. They could have been more convincing. Try to bring in a structured approach in your narration, it will surely help. I appreciate the sincerity behind these posts. A little emphasis on the language will help you go a longer way.

All the best!
