The bomb blasts that killed many innocent people in Karachi are not a heinous crime against humanity. It is rather an unforgivable sin against God whom you adore so respectfully. The perpetrators who ignited the tinder-box had been so cleverly timed that the pre-arranged security proved useless. Known to be the hotbed of terrorists Pakistan ’s very existence is always in danger. Caught between two fires General Parvez Musharaf now being faced by a sticky situation in his political career has to find ways and means to root out terrorist forces off the soil. How long people can live in fear? The time has not come yet to claim he has won half the battle against the terrorist activities. On the other hand it is on the increase threatening peace and security of the region

Water, water everywhere, but not a single drop to drink is just one of life’s little ironies. Much heavier than in the recent past, this time around the rain came down in buckets that caused widespread damage to life and property in the State. The situation is diametrically opposite as summer sets in. Acute water shortage during the long dry spell during the season has been a perennial problem. Yet no enduring solution is found by the authorities. The sense of a duty both at governmental level and popular level has fallen off considerably. Civic duties and responsibilities are almost non-existent and the quality of public life reduced to paper-thin.

The water shortage problem arises due to lack of vision and far-sightedness. Conservation of water has not been given enough thought with the result the quantity of water being wasted is staggering. In this hi-tech world there are several methods to conserve water which could otherwise be gainfully employed to our best advantage. Broken pipes, dripping taps are a common sight everywhere, the repairs of which are not attended to by the authorities. A blind approach to blindness prevention will get you nowhere. The recent pipe burst in Idukki district and consequent loss of lives is a grim reminder how lax we are in our system. All employees who are paid to do their job should realize it is not the hours they put in the work that counts, it is the work they put in the hours. It is the sole responsibility of the water authority to re-charge the soil and ensure continuous availability of water to avert a crisis in the peak summer

importance of Malayalam

While I don’t disagree to the promotion of Malayalam to be the medium of instruction in higher secondary schools, it should never be done at the cost of English. Being international language it is widely recognized the world over. English gives you an opportunity to socialize with other nations by means of easy communication. The British rule and their influence have put English on a firm footing that few countries enjoy today. We have been able achieve great success in the IT sector, science and technology by the solid foundation we laid on English language. If English is not given its due recognition, it will aversely affect the development and progress of these sectors . Believe it or not the Chinese who are chauvinistic by nature have now started learning English realizing the folly they have made in the past.
The standard of English has been declining over the years the effect of which would surely be detrimental to science and technology particularly to a developing nation. We can’t under any reason belittle the importance of Malayalam anyway but it shouldn’t be at the cost of English.
